Professor John Stanton

John has over 40 years experience working as a social anthropologist in the arena of Aboriginal Australia, chiefly through hsi role as Director of the Berndt Museum of Anthropology at The University of Western Australia 1978-2013, and publishing extensively on Aboriginal Australia, especially art. He has worked extensively with Noongar people of the South-West of Western Australia, developing exhibitions that promoted the work of the Carrolup child artists there in the late 1940s and early 1950s, and subsequent in the Kimberley, focussed on assisting in the development of local cultural and art centres (e.g.Halls Creek, Balgo, Derby and Broome).
