Syd Jackson: Agricultural Business

November 22, 2016

Meet one of our fantastic Aboriginal speakers at IBECC16, Syd Jackson, a former Australian rules footballer who played with the Carlton Blues during the 1970s. As a child Syd was removed from his family and homelands in Leonora, Western Australia, to the former Roelands Mission (now Roelands Village) under Assimilation policies of the day. Watch Syd's welcome message here.

Syd now works with Roelands Village which is a pioneering new program designed to integrate history with social change for Indigenous Australians.

It aims "to provide opportunities for guests and visitors to Roelands to interact with and learn about the Roelands Mission story and Aboriginal cultural heritage – while providing opportunities for Aboriginal people to take responsibility for their future." Visit their website for more information and read this media article from the Weekend West.

Their motto? Strong, proud and building for generations to come. We look forward to welcoming Syd and his wealth of knowledge to IBECC16.
